Background

Economics Institute was founded in 1947 and has continuously lasted for almost seven decades. It combines tradition, resources and references of the two institutes: Economics Institute and Institute of Industrial Economics. Their integration, back in 1989, resulted in the present-day Economics Institute, accredited since 2007 as a research institute for conducting scientific research activities of common interest.

Key periods/dates

1947 – Institute for economic research was established on November 12, 1947 under the Decision of the Government of the People’s Republic of Serbia, No. 13818.

1959 – Under the Decision of the Executive Council of the People's Republic of Serbia IV no. 84, of March 27, 1954, Institute was named "self-financing institution, under the name of Economics Institute of the People’s Republic of Serbia".

1959 – Economics Institute gained the status of an independent scientific institution and its present name, Economics Institute.

1961 – Chamber of Commerce of the Republic, Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University and Executive Council of the SR Serbia Assembly, established Institute of Industrial Economics.

1989 – Economics Institute and Institute of Industrial Economics merged in a unique scientific research institute, since when the newly established Economics Institute continued to operate and develop combining tradition and references of the two previous institutes.

1999 – Economics Institute entered and successfully completed the process of ownership transformation. Today, Economics Institute is a joint stock company.

2007 - Economics Institute was accredited as a research institute for conducting scientific research activities of common interest.

On the occasion of a significant anniversary in 2007 - six decades since its founding, Economics Institute published a thematic proceedings “Sixty years of Economics Institute”, whereby the development, activities and achieved results of Economics Institute as one of the first independent scientific and research organizations established in Yugoslavia after the Second World War and one of the oldest scientific and research institutions in the country, were presented to scientific and professional community.
